Xi Welcomes World Leaders Ahead of Tianjin SCO Summit
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday began receiving world leaders and top dignitaries, including United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
The high-profile gathering, scheduled for Sunday and Monday in Tianjin, will bring together leaders from more than 20 countries. The meeting comes just days before a massive military parade in Beijing to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Among the 26 world leaders expected at the parade is North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, whose attendance underscores the significance of the events.
The SCO, which has become an influential multilateral platform, comprises China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus. In addition, 16 other nations are linked to the group as observers or “dialogue partners.”
The summit in Tianjin is expected to focus on strengthening security, economic cooperation, and regional stability across Asia and beyond.
