Israel Kills Al Jazeera Correspondent in Targeted Airstrike in Gaza

Category: News |

Gaza, August 10, 2025 – The Israeli army (IDF) has admitted carrying out a targeted strike on Anas al-Sharif, a correspondent for Al Jazeera’s Arabic service in Gaza. The 28-year-old journalist and several colleagues were inside a press tent near the entrance of al-Shifa Hospital when an Israeli airstrike hit the area.

The attack also killed other media workers, including Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, freelance cameraman Moamen Aliwa, as well as several civilians.

The IDF claimed al-Sharif was a Hamas militant — an accusation strongly denied by his family and Al Jazeera. International press organizations — including CPJ, RSF, the UN, and UNESCO — have called for an independent investigation, stressing that press freedom must be protected under all circumstances.

This incident marks another devastating blow to journalist safety during the Gaza war, where dozens of media workers have been killed since the conflict began.
