Aliko Dangote, Abdul Samad Rabiu from Kano Top Africa’s Richest Men List

Nigerian business moguls, Aliko Dangote and Abdul Samad Rabiu, both indigenes of Kano, have emerged among Africa’s wealthiest individuals in the latest billionaire rankings released by Forbes and Bloomberg.

According to the 2026 Forbes Africa Billionaires List, Dangote retained his position as Africa’s richest man with an estimated net worth of over $28 billion, driven by the strong performance of his cement business and the growing success of the Dangote Refinery project in Nigeria.

Rabiu, founder of BUA Group, also recorded one of the highest wealth increases on the continent. His fortune surged significantly due to the rapid growth of BUA Cement and BUA Foods, placing him among Africa’s top billionaires. Bloomberg recently ranked him among the continent’s top three richest men, while Forbes placed him among the top four Africans by net worth.

The emergence of two Kano-born industrialists at the summit of Africa’s wealth rankings highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in manufacturing, cement production, food processing, and energy investment across the continent.

Analysts say the expansion of large-scale industrial projects by Dangote and Rabiu has contributed to job creation, infrastructure development, and increased investor confidence in Nigeria’s economy. The Dangote Refinery, one of Africa’s largest industrial projects, has also boosted Dangote’s global ranking among Black billionaires worldwide.

The latest rankings further cement Kano State’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s historic commercial hubs, having produced generations of influential entrepreneurs and business leaders.
