BREAKING: Senate Confirms Amupitan as New INEC Chairman

The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Prof. Ayo Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following a rigorous screening session held on Thursday. Amupitan’s confirmation comes after President Bola Tinubu nominated him to replace Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, whose tenure recently ended.

During the screening, senators commended Amupitan’s wealth of experience in electoral law and governance. He pledged to strengthen electoral transparency, improve the use of technology in future elections, and rebuild public trust in the electoral process.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the plenary, described Amupitan’s appointment as a “timely move to advance credible elections in Nigeria.” The new INEC chairman is expected to assume office immediately and oversee preparations for upcoming gubernatorial and by-election contests across the country.
