Kaduna School Feeding Programme Empowers Women, Boosts Local Farming – Governor’s Aide

The Kaduna State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to economic empowerment through its school feeding initiative, which provides employment opportunities for women and supports local farmers. Speaking in Kaduna, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Social Investment, Hajiya Maryam Ladan, stated that over 12,000 women have been engaged as cooks under the programme, ensuring the daily provision of nutritious meals for pupils across public primary schools.

Ladan emphasized that the initiative not only tackles malnutrition among children but also stimulates rural economies by sourcing food items such as rice, maize, beans, vegetables, and eggs directly from local farmers. She noted that this approach has strengthened the agricultural value chain and reduced post-harvest losses.

She added that the state government remains committed to sustaining and expanding the programme to reach more communities, ensuring inclusivity and transparency in beneficiary selection. The initiative, she said, aligns with Governor Uba Sani’s vision to promote education, reduce poverty, and empower vulnerable groups through sustainable social intervention programmes.
