The Federal Ministry of Environment has launched a Clean Cooking Campaign and Stove Distribution Initiative across Nigeria to encourage safer, sustainable cooking. The initiative promotes the use of locally developed clean stoves as a healthier alternative to traditional biomass methods such as firewood and charcoal.
Initial rollout began in Ebonyi and Kebbi States, with stoves designed to reduce indoor air pollution, deforestation, and greenhouse gas emissions. The campaign supports Nigeria’s climate goals and is aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Iniobong Abiola-Awe, speaking on behalf of Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal, emphasized the importance of including community leaders, women, youth, and persons with disabilities to ensure real impact. She highlighted the initiative’s role in empowering local businesses through training for stove producers and distributors.
This campaign contributes to public health, environmental protection, and economic empowerment, supporting the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
