NECA: States Have No Excuse Not to Pay Above N70,000 Minimum Wage
Following the rising cost of living and its impact on citizens, alongside the increase in federal allocations to all tiers of government, the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has declared that state governments have no excuse not to pay civil servants beyond the proposed N70,000 minimum wage.
NECA emphasized that with improved revenue streams and rising allocations from the Federation Account, governments at both state and local levels must prioritize workers’ welfare.
The association noted that Nigerian workers continue to grapple with inflation, high food prices, and soaring costs of essential services. According to NECA, failure by state governments to adjust salaries in line with economic realities would further impoverish citizens and weaken productivity.
The group therefore urged governors to demonstrate responsibility by ensuring prompt implementation of a fair wage structure that reflects the prevailing economic situation.
