FG Launches Nationwide Crackdown on Oil, Gold Smugglers

The Federal Government has commenced a sweeping nationwide operation targeting oil and gold smugglers, as part of efforts to curb economic sabotage and boost revenue generation. The coordinated crackdown, involving the Nigerian Customs Service, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), aims to dismantle smuggling networks draining the nation’s economy.

According to the Minister of Interior, the operation will cover border communities, illegal mining sites, and coastal regions notorious for illicit trade. He stressed that the government would ensure prosecution of offenders to serve as a deterrent. The move follows intelligence reports indicating a surge in cross-border smuggling activities, leading to significant losses in oil revenue and mineral resources.
