In the early hours of Sunday, six individuals were kidnapped by armed bandits in Hayin Gizo, a remote village in the Garun Kurama district of Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
According to local witnesses, the gunmen arrived around 1:30 a.m., shooting into the air and threatening residents. The attack reportedly lasted for over an hour.
Among those abducted are two Igbo traders and several local farmers. One woman who was initially taken was later released due to health complications.
Local sources describe the abducted individuals as struggling farmers and traders with no means to pay ransom. They have pleaded with the kidnappers for mercy and called on security agencies to act urgently.
The Lere area and neighboring regions—including Kauru, Kachia, Zango Kataf, and Jema’a—have witnessed a disturbing rise in abductions and violence in recent times.
Calls have been made to both government and community leaders to provide increased protection and bring the perpetrators to justice.
