JAMB Probes 6,458 UTME Results Over Alleged High-Tech Cheating
ABUJA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that it is currently investigating the results of 6,458 candidates who participated in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) over suspected involvement in what it described as “high-tech cheating”.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, revealed this yesterday during the inauguration of a special committee set up to thoroughly examine cases of technology-driven malpractice uncovered in this year's exam.
Prof. Oloyede expressed concern over the increasing sophistication of examination fraud in the country, noting that some operators of accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers were now deeply involved in helping candidates to compromise the integrity of the exam.
He lamented that the involvement of CBT center operators had made examination malpractice more difficult to detect, but assured the public that the Board would leave no stone unturned in identifying and sanctioning all those found guilty.
According to him, "It is disturbing that the level of fraud we are seeing is not only technologically driven, but also actively supported by some CBT center operators who were trusted to uphold the integrity of the process."
The committee, he said, has been mandated to review all flagged results and recommend appropriate sanctions where necessary. He also appealed to parents, candidates and stakeholders to support the Board's efforts to safeguard the credibility of the examination system in the country.
JAMB reiterated its commitment to ensuring that only deserving candidates gain admission into tertiary institutions, adding that those found guilty of malpractice would face strict penalties.
