Nigeria TV Info — Super Eagles Intensify Training Ahead of Crucial World Cup Qualifier Against Lesotho
Head Coach Eric Sekou Chelle is ramping up preparations as the Super Eagles gear up for a vital 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Crocodiles of Lesotho this Friday in Polokwane, South Africa.
With training sessions now in full swing, the Nigerian squad is nearing full strength. The team’s second training session on Wednesday is expected to feature 20 players, as more arrivals continue to bolster the camp.
As of Tuesday night, 18 players were already in camp at The Ranch Hotel. Zaidu Sanusi (Portugal-based defender) and Jerome Akor Adams (Spain-based forward) are expected to join the squad on Wednesday, while USA-based midfielder Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi is due to arrive in South Africa on Thursday.
Chelle has made some key adjustments to his initial 23-man squad due to injuries. Bright Osayi-Samuel and Cyriel Dessers have both been ruled out, with their places taken by Zaidu Sanusi and Christantus Uche of Crystal Palace, England. Earlier, wing-back Felix Agu also withdrew due to injury, reducing the initial number to 22.
However, there’s a potential visa hitch for Russia-based winger Olakunle Olusegun, who is yet to receive his South African entry visa, which could see Nigeria field only 21 players for the encounter.
On a positive note, star striker Victor Osimhen has returned to the squad after missing the previous qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein. Team captain William Ekong also participated in Tuesday’s training, bringing much-needed leadership and stability to the backline.
The Matchday 9 showdown will take place at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday, October 10, 2025. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. South Africa time (5 p.m. Nigeria time).
