227 Students, Teachers Abducted in Fresh School Attack in Niger State

Nigeria has recorded yet another tragic blow as terrorists launched a large-scale attack on St. Mary’s Private (Catholic) Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting at least 227 students and teachers.

The incident, which occurred early Friday morning, adds to the growing wave of mass kidnappings across the country as terrorists and bandits continue to terrorize communities with little resistance.

Although early reports conflicted on the exact number of abductees, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State, Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, confirmed the figure.

According to him, “227 persons including teachers were abducted by terrorists during the attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools, Papiri.”
He described the incident as “a heartbreaking and unacceptable assault on the future of the nation.”

Residents say the attackers stormed the school in large numbers, shooting into the air and forcing students and staff into waiting vehicles before disappearing into the forests bordering the area.

This latest mass abduction adds to what many Nigerians have described as a “harvest of tragedies,” with schoolchildren repeatedly targeted across several states. Security operatives have yet to issue an official statement, and rescue efforts are reportedly underway.

Parents and community leaders have called on the Federal Government to act decisively to stop what is fast becoming a national emergency.
