Hardship: Akpabio, Yilwatda Challenge Nigerians to Monitor Governors

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s Chief of Staff, Gyang Yilwatda, have called on Nigerians to hold state governors accountable for funds and initiatives meant to cushion the current economic hardship. Speaking at a public policy forum in Abuja, Akpabio emphasised that while President Bola Tinubu’s administration has rolled out several palliative measures, their impact depends largely on the effective management and transparency of state governments.

He urged citizens and civil society organisations to actively monitor how governors disburse funds allocated for food security, wage support, and infrastructure. Yilwatda, echoing Akpabio’s view, said Nigeria’s development cannot thrive without accountability at the sub-national level, warning that federal efforts would fail if state leaders mismanage resources.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring collaboration between the National Assembly and state assemblies to enhance oversight and ensure that funds reach the grassroots. They urged Nigerians to demand transparency and regular updates from their governors to prevent diversion of public resources.
