Nigeria TV Info — Peter Obi Slams APC, Tinubu Over Rising Poverty in Nigeria

Abuja, Nigeria — Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that their policies have pushed over 50 million Nigerians into poverty in just two years. According to Obi, a total of 139 million Nigerians now live below the poverty line.

Obi made the remarks in a post on X, citing a World Bank report released on October 8, 2025. He noted that the figure represented a sharp increase from the 87 million Nigerians living in poverty in 2023, the year President Tinubu assumed office.

In a post titled, “APC Government Policies and Style Have Impoverished Several Million Nigerians in Just Two Years,” Obi described the statistics as “a heartbreaking reflection of how deeply our nation is failing its citizens.” He added that the report should have prompted urgent national action rather than government rebuttals.

“What is even more concerning is that this devastating revelation has not led to an emergency and national discussion on how to effectively pull millions of our people out of poverty, but instead caused a rebuttal from the government, when the news already reflects the daily struggles of the ordinary Nigerian,” Obi stated.

The former governor argued that the worsening economic situation contradicted government claims of progress, emphasizing that the administration’s policies lacked clear direction and a people-centred focus.

Obi called for deliberate reforms prioritizing production over consumption, support for small businesses and farmers, and investments in education and healthcare.

“No nation can truly rise when the majority of its people are trapped in poverty. With the right leadership, we can make Nigeria work for every Nigerian,” he concluded.
