Breaking: ASUU Declares Two-Week Warning Strike Over Unfulfilled Agreements
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a two-week warning strike beginning Monday, following the Federal Governmentâs alleged failure to honour past agreements. The union, after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja, said the decision became necessary after several failed attempts to get the government to implement the renegotiated 2009 agreement and address issues of withheld salaries, funding for revitalisation, and the proliferation of universities.
ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated that the strike is meant to draw attention to the governmentâs consistent neglect of the education sector, warning that the union may embark on an indefinite strike if no concrete steps are taken after the warning period.
The strike is expected to affect academic activities in federal and state universities nationwide, with students and parents expressing concerns over potential disruption of the academic calendar once again.
