Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State — Lecturers at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have threatened to disrupt the planned resumption of academic activities and the forthcoming convocation over unpaid salaries and arrears.

The academic staff, organised under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), embarked on a strike last month, citing the non-payment of their salaries and arrears, a development that has brought academic and social activities on campus to a standstill.

Dr Boluwaji Oshodi, Chairman of AAUA ASUU, said members had exercised “enough patience” amid what they described as the government’s failure to address their concerns.

In response, the Ondo State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Tayo Akinyemi, assured that the state government has not abandoned the university or its staff. He stated that efforts were ongoing to resolve the payment issues and urged ASUU to remain patient while solutions were being worked out.

Dr. Akinyemi added that the government was committed to ensuring that the university resumed academic activities without further disruptions and that the convocation ceremony proceeded as scheduled.

The standoff between AAUA lecturers and the Ondo State Government continues to be a major concern for students, parents, and stakeholders in the state’s education sector.
