NIPOST Moves to Address Shipment Delays to US After Trump’s Executive Order

Abuja – The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has assured customers across the country that measures are being put in place to cushion possible delays in the shipment of goods to the United States, following President Donald Trump’s recent Executive Order.

According to NIPOST, all postal items destined for the US will now attract a prepayment duty of $80, effective today, August 29.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the postal agency said it is actively engaging key international stakeholders, including the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the US Customs Service, and the US Border Protection Agency, to mitigate disruptions in service.

NIPOST further noted that while the new directive may initially cause challenges for customers, its management remains committed to ensuring smooth operations and timely delivery of goods.

The agency urged Nigerians to remain calm and cooperate as discussions continue with relevant authorities to ease the impact of the new policy on cross-border shipments.
