Nigeria TV Info â Federal Government Move May Disrupt University Academic Calendar
Abuja â There are growing concerns that the academic calendar in Nigerian universities could face disruption, following reports that the federal government is planning to renegotiate with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) without involving the other three university-based unions.
Sources say the move has sparked tensions among stakeholders in the higher education sector, with fears that excluding other unions from discussions could lead to strikes or other forms of industrial action, potentially affecting students nationwide.
The three other university-based unions include the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the University Graduate Assistant Association (UGAA). Analysts warn that a lack of inclusive dialogue may stall academic activities and prolong disputes over welfare and funding.
The federal government has yet to make an official statement on the matter.
