FG Announces Major Reforms in Education, NELFUND to Cover Student Fees

ABUJA – The federal government has unveiled comprehensive reforms in Nigeria’s education sector, introducing a unified fee structure for universities and pledging full coverage of student fees through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, revealed the reforms at a media briefing in Abuja, stressing that the initiative is designed to enhance transparency, fairness, and accessibility across higher institutions in the country.

According to Dr. Alausa, the reforms aim to ensure that every Nigerian student has equal access to quality education without being burdened by prohibitive costs, while also streamlining fee management in universities nationwide.

The move has been welcomed by educational stakeholders who say it could significantly reduce financial barriers for students and promote equitable opportunities in tertiary education.
