NCAA Explains Why Ibom Air Passenger Was Taken to Court, But Kwam 1 Was Not
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has clarified the circumstances behind the different legal outcomes in two recent incidents involving air travel disruptions.
According to the NCAA, Comfort Emmanson, a female passenger who allegedly assaulted Ibom Air crew members during a recent flight, was charged to court and subsequently remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following a police investigation.
In contrast, Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, who was accused of disrupting a ValueJet flight in Abuja last week, was not charged to court. The NCAA explained that in Kwam 1’s case, no formal complaint or request for prosecution was lodged by the airline or affected parties, which limited the scope for legal action.
The Authority stressed that while it condemns all acts of unruly behavior onboard flights, prosecution depends on the availability of concrete evidence and the willingness of complainants to pursue the matter through legal channels.
NCAA reiterated its commitment to enforcing air safety regulations and urged both airlines and passengers to respect aviation rules to ensure safe and orderly travel.
