Tinubu Commissions Rehabilitated Karu Road Network, Says Project Will Boost Economy
President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the newly rehabilitated and expanded road network linking Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction and adjoining roads in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), describing the project as a major step toward easing traffic congestion and improving the quality of life for residents.
Represented at the inauguration by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President said the project reflects the Federal Government's commitment to delivering infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that the Karu corridor, one of the busiest gateways into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had suffered years of severe traffic congestion that affected productivity and economic activities.
Tinubu said the expanded road network would significantly reduce travel time, eliminate persistent gridlock, and create a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive. He added that the installation of solar-powered streetlights along the corridor would improve security, enhance visibility for motorists, and reduce crime at night.
The President also praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for driving Abuja's urban renewal programme, stating that the rapid transformation of the capital city reflects focused leadership and effective project execution. He equally commended the local contractor for delivering quality work on schedule, describing it as proof that Nigerian firms can meet global construction standards.
The commissioning comes as the Federal Government continues a series of infrastructure projects across the FCT aimed at improving transportation, supporting economic growth, and enhancing living standards for residents.
