Nigeria TV Info LPPC Bars Mike Ozekhome from Using SAN Rank Pending Disciplinary Proceedings

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended prominent constitutional lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), directing him to stop presenting or referring to himself as a SAN pending the conclusion of ongoing disciplinary proceedings.

The decision was reached during the LPPC’s 173rd General Meeting held on June 23, 2026. In a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Akanbi, the committee said the suspension was effected pursuant to Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

According to the LPPC, the measure is intended to protect the integrity, dignity, and prestige of the SAN rank while disciplinary matters involving Ozekhome are being reviewed. The committee directed him to refrain from parading himself, presenting himself, or otherwise holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the disciplinary process is concluded.

The suspension comes amid ongoing legal and disciplinary issues linked to allegations surrounding disputed property transactions and related proceedings currently under review by the LPPC’s Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee. However, the committee emphasized that the action is interim and does not amount to a final determination of guilt.

The development has generated significant attention within Nigeria’s legal community, given the rarity of disciplinary actions involving holders of the prestigious SAN title. The LPPC reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism within the legal profession.
