Insecurity: Igboho Defends Actions as Sunday Igboho Replies ACF, NEF Warn of Anarchy
Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, has defended his recent comments and actions on regional security, insisting they were driven by the need to protect communities in the South-West amid rising insecurity across the country.
In a strongly worded response, Igboho maintained that citizens cannot continue to remain silent while armed attacks, kidnappings, and rural violence escalate in several parts of the region. He argued that local communities have a right to self-preservation when state protection appears inadequate.
His remarks came after criticism from northern socio-political groups, including the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), which warned that such rhetoric and regional mobilization could deepen tensions and potentially lead to national instability or anarchy.
The ACF cautioned that security responses must remain within constitutional frameworks, urging all stakeholders to avoid actions that could be interpreted as encouraging fragmentation. Similarly, the NEF called for restraint, dialogue, and stronger federal security intervention rather than self-help approaches.
Security analysts note that the exchange highlights growing mistrust between regional advocacy groups and underscores Nigeriaâs broader struggle with insecurity, coordination gaps, and rising ethnic sensitivities.
Authorities have yet to announce any formal investigation or mediation effort, but calls for national dialogue on security restructuring continue to grow louder across civil society groups.
