ADC Slams APC Over Celebration of Judges’ Housing Project

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for celebrating the provision of housing for judicial officers, describing the action as inappropriate and politically motivated. The opposition party argued that providing accommodation and welfare support for judges is a constitutional responsibility of government and should not be presented as a political achievement deserving of excessive praise.

In a statement issued by party officials, the ADC maintained that the judiciary plays a crucial role in safeguarding democracy and the rule of law, stressing that judges deserve adequate working conditions, security, and housing without political interference. The party accused the APC of attempting to gain political mileage from what it described as a routine government obligation funded by taxpayers.

The ADC further urged federal and state governments to focus on broader judicial reforms, including improving court infrastructure, reducing case backlogs, enhancing judicial independence, and ensuring timely delivery of justice. According to the party, strengthening the justice system requires sustained investment and institutional reforms rather than political celebrations.

Reacting to the criticism, APC supporters defended the housing initiative, arguing that the project demonstrates the government's commitment to improving the welfare of judicial officers and strengthening the judiciary. They maintained that the administration deserves recognition for completing projects that directly benefit key democratic institutions.

Political analysts note that the exchange reflects the growing rivalry between political parties ahead of future elections, with both sides seeking to shape public perception on governance, accountability, and public service delivery.
