2026: Governor Adeleke Asks Osun People to Rise, Defend Their Democratic Rights

Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on the people of Osun State to remain vigilant and actively defend their democratic rights amid rising political tensions and growing concerns over governance and civic participation in the state.

Speaking during a public engagement in Osogbo, the governor emphasized that democracy can only thrive when citizens refuse to be passive observers. He urged residents to hold leaders accountable, participate in civic processes, and resist any form of intimidation that could weaken democratic institutions.

Adeleke stressed that Osun State has a proud history of political awareness and active citizen engagement, noting that such traditions must be strengthened rather than weakened. He encouraged youths and community leaders to take ownership of the democratic space through peaceful participation and lawful activism.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and protection of citizens’ rights, adding that his government would continue to support initiatives that strengthen democracy at the grassroots level.

The governor’s message comes at a time when political actors across Nigeria are calling for greater civic responsibility ahead of key national and subnational developments.
