Israel-Iran War Disrupts Global Military Equipment Supply Chains — Defence Minister Warns
Lagos, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Defence Minister has raised concerns that the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict is significantly disrupting global military equipment supply chains, making procurement of arms and defence hardware increasingly difficult for many countries, including Nigeria.
According to the minister, the escalation of the Israel-Iran war, alongside other global conflicts involving major powers, has tightened access to critical military components, delayed deliveries, and strained international defence production networks.
He noted that manufacturers in Europe, the United States, and Asia are now prioritising their own military needs and those of frontline allies, leaving developing nations facing longer wait times and higher costs for defence equipment.
The minister explained that the conflict has worsened an already fragile global defence supply system, disrupted raw material flows, and increased demand for missiles, drones, air defence systems, and ammunition.
Security analysts say the Israel-Iran war has contributed to a wider “arms supply crunch” driven by simultaneous conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and parts of Africa, forcing many countries to rethink procurement strategies and focus more on local production and partnerships.
Nigeria, he added, is exploring options to strengthen domestic defence manufacturing capacity to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers amid growing global instability.
