The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has called on investigators and heads of investigative units across the country to prioritize accurate suspect data collection and management as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence-led policing in Nigeria.
Speaking during the One-Day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitisation Workshop held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP emphasized that modern policing depends on timely, accurate, and actionable information. He noted that effective law enforcement can no longer rely solely on traditional investigative methods.
According to the police chief, the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) Centre Project is designed to improve crime analysis, intelligence gathering, evidence-based investigations, and cooperation among security agencies. The system will also help identify repeat offenders, track criminal trends, and support proactive crime prevention strategies.
Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to adopting technology, innovation, and data-driven policing methods to improve public safety and strengthen national security. He urged officers nationwide to comply with established procedures for capturing suspectsâ information accurately and consistently.
The workshop is expected to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen Nigeria's crime management architecture, while supporting the Force's broader goal of building a more professional, accountable, and citizen-focused police service.
