Kidnappers Seek Release of Gang Members, Not ₦1bn or Sharia Law – Abducted Ogbomoso Principal Reveals
An abducted school principal from Ogbomoso has disclosed fresh details about the demands of his captors, stating that the kidnappers are not requesting a ₦1 billion ransom or any political or religious conditions such as the imposition of Sharia law, contrary to earlier speculation.
According to the victim, the armed group behind the abduction is primarily demanding the release of their detained gang members currently in security custody. The principal explained that the kidnappers repeatedly insisted that their operation was aimed at pressuring authorities to free arrested associates, rather than seeking financial gain.
The incident has heightened tension in parts of Oyo State, with residents expressing concern over the evolving tactics of criminal networks, which increasingly appear to focus on negotiated prisoner exchanges rather than traditional ransom payments.
Security agencies are reportedly monitoring the situation closely, while local authorities have urged calm and assured that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim safely and apprehend those responsible.
Community leaders in Ogbomoso have also called for strengthened intelligence operations and improved rural security to prevent further abductions in the region.
