TCN Alerts Three States of 30-Day Electricity Outage Over Major Grid Upgrade

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has issued a formal alert announcing an impending 30-day power outage affecting three states as part of a nationwide grid modernization and infrastructure upgrade project.

According to the notice, the planned disruption is necessary to allow engineers carry out critical maintenance, expansion, and reinforcement works on key transmission lines and substations. The exercise is expected to improve long-term grid stability, reduce system collapses, and enhance electricity delivery efficiency across affected regions once completed.

TCN explained that the outage will be carefully managed in phases to reduce the impact on consumers, while electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in the affected states will implement temporary load management measures during the period. Residents and businesses have been advised to prepare alternative power sources and manage consumption to minimize disruption.

The company also reassured the public that emergency response teams will be on standby to address faults and ensure safety throughout the upgrade process. It emphasized that the intervention is part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fragile power infrastructure.

Stakeholders in the energy sector have welcomed the move but urged authorities to ensure transparency, timely completion, and minimal economic disruption, especially for small businesses dependent on steady electricity supply.
