Nigeria TV Info Peter Obi Reels Out Plans for Nigeria, Says Kwankwaso Won’t Be a ‘Spare Tyre’
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has unveiled key policy proposals for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election, while assuring that his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would play an active role in governance rather than serve as a ceremonial vice president.
Speaking at the NDC national convention in Abuja, Obi said his administration would be built on partnership, consultation, and shared responsibility. He rejected the long-standing political notion of vice presidents being treated as “spare tyres,” promising that Kwankwaso would be fully involved in decision-making processes.
Obi outlined a broad agenda focused on security, healthcare, education, energy, agriculture, job creation, and anti-corruption reforms. According to him, insecurity remains one of Nigeria’s biggest challenges, and his government would adopt intelligence-driven and technology-backed strategies to combat terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities.
On healthcare, Obi pledged to improve access to medical services by increasing health sector funding and ensuring functional primary healthcare centres across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards. He also promised to expand health insurance coverage and address the shortage of medical personnel.
In education, the former Anambra governor said his administration would invest heavily in schools, teachers, technology, and vocational training to equip young Nigerians with skills needed for employment and entrepreneurship. He described education as a critical tool for national transformation and economic growth.
Obi further promised to boost electricity generation and distribution, strengthen democratic institutions, uphold the rule of law, and promote national unity across ethnic, religious, and political divides. He maintained that Nigeria’s progress depends on inclusive leadership and accountable governance.
The announcement of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket is expected to reshape political calculations ahead of the 2027 presidential election, as both politicians seek to build a broader opposition platform capable of challenging incumbent political forces.
