Meet Prof. Segun Aina: From JAMB Corps Member to Registrar of Nigeria’s Top Exam Body

Professor Segun Aina has been appointed as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), marking a remarkable journey from serving as a corps member within the organisation to now leading it at the highest level.

Born in Nigeria and trained as a Computer Engineering expert, Aina is a Professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and is widely recognised for his contributions to digital systems, examination technology, and institutional reform in Nigeria’s education sector.

His appointment by President Bola Tinubu makes him one of the youngest JAMB Registrars in history, as he is currently 39 years old and will turn 40 in July 2026.

From Corps Member to Top Administrator

Aina’s journey with JAMB began in 2010 when he served the organisation during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a Computer Systems Engineer/Analyst. That early exposure to Nigeria’s examination body laid the foundation for his later involvement in education technology and policy advisory roles.

Over the years, he rose through academic and professional ranks, becoming one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering and gaining international recognition in areas such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and examination system design.

Academic and Professional Excellence

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent (UK), an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

Aina is also a member of several professional bodies, including IEEE, COREN, NSE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, reflecting his strong global academic and engineering network.

Role Ahead at JAMB

As Registrar, Prof. Aina is expected to strengthen JAMB’s digital systems, improve examination integrity, and build on reforms introduced by his predecessor, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede. His background in technology-driven governance is seen as a key advantage in modernising Nigeria’s admission processes.
