Nigeria Begins 30-Day Visa-Free Entry for Rwandans

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially commenced the implementation of a 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of Rwanda, marking a major step toward strengthening diplomatic relations and boosting intra-African travel and trade. The policy follows President Bola Tinubu’s announcement during the Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda.

According to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Rwandan nationals can now enter Nigeria without a visa for up to 30 days for lawful purposes such as tourism, business activities, and official engagements. The agency confirmed that all international airports, land borders, and seaports across the country have been directed to begin immediate enforcement of the new arrangement.

The visa waiver is seen as a reciprocal gesture following Rwanda’s similar visa-free policy for Nigerian citizens. Authorities say the initiative is expected to deepen economic cooperation, encourage tourism, and promote regional integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

However, the NIS clarified that Rwandan visitors intending to remain in Nigeria beyond the approved 30-day period must apply for the appropriate visa through Nigerian embassies or the country’s e-visa platform. Immigration officials also reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring safe, orderly, and lawful migration in line with international best practices.
