Easter: Clerics Urge Forgiveness, Decry Hardship and Rising Insecurity

Christian leaders across Nigeria have used this year’s Easter celebration to call for forgiveness, unity, and renewed faith, while expressing deep concern over worsening insecurity and economic hardship facing citizens.

In their Easter messages, clerics emphasized the significance of the season as a reminder of sacrifice, hope, and reconciliation. They urged Nigerians to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ by forgiving one another, promoting peace, and strengthening communal bonds despite prevailing challenges.

Many church leaders lamented the persistent insecurity in parts of the country, including banditry, kidnappings, and communal clashes, noting that the situation continues to threaten lives and livelihoods. They called on government at all levels to intensify efforts in securing the nation and restoring public confidence.

The rising cost of living also featured prominently in their messages, with clerics acknowledging the struggles faced by families and urging leaders to implement policies that will ease economic pressure on citizens.

Despite these concerns, they encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope, stressing that Easter symbolizes victory over despair. They called for collective prayers for the nation, unity among diverse groups, and commitment to building a more peaceful and prosperous society.

Clerics further appealed to citizens to remain law-abiding, support one another, and contribute positively to national development.
