Tinubu Determined to Strengthen Power Sector, Shettima Vows at NELMCO Office Inauguration
Nigeriaâs Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to revitalizing the nationâs power sector during the inauguration of the new office of the Nigerian Electricity Liability Management Company in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Shettima emphasized that the Tinubu administration is focused on addressing longstanding challenges in Nigeriaâs electricity industry, including legacy debts, infrastructure deficits, and inefficiencies in power generation and distribution. He noted that NELMCO plays a crucial role in managing liabilities inherited from the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), which remains key to stabilizing the sector.
The Vice President explained that strengthening institutions like NELMCO would enhance transparency and accountability while creating a more investor-friendly environment. According to him, the government is implementing reforms aimed at improving electricity supply, boosting economic growth, and ensuring reliable power for businesses and households.
Shettima further highlighted ongoing collaborations between government agencies and private sector stakeholders to modernize the grid, expand generation capacity, and promote renewable energy solutions. He assured Nigerians that the administration is determined to deliver sustainable and affordable electricity nationwide.
The inauguration of the new NELMCO office is seen as part of broader efforts by the federal government to reposition the power sector for efficiency and long-term development.
