Nigerian Army Boosts Firepower with New Vanquisher, Dagger APCs
The Nigerian Army has taken delivery of new batches of Vanquisher Light Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and Dagger tactical vehicles, marking a major step in strengthening its operational capacity and mobility across conflict zones.
The induction, which took place in Kaduna on March 4, 2026, saw the handover of about 15 locally manufactured Vanquisher APCs developed through a partnership between the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Vanquish Industries Limited, and the Armyâs Command Engineering Depot.
Military authorities described the development as a significant milestone toward self-reliance in defence production, emphasizing the importance of local innovation in addressing Nigeriaâs evolving security challenges.
The Vanquisher APCs are designed specifically for Nigeriaâs terrain and security needs. They feature ballistic protection, mine resistance, run-flat tyres, and night-vision capabilities, making them suitable for counter-insurgency operations, patrol, and convoy escort missions.
Alongside the indigenous vehicles, the Army also acquired over 30 Dagger armoured vehicles from French manufacturer Arquus. These light tactical vehicles are built for rapid deployment, reconnaissance, and troop transport, offering enhanced protection and mobility in high-risk environments.
Army officials noted that combining locally produced platforms with advanced foreign systems reflects a dual strategy aimed at improving combat effectiveness while reducing dependence on imports. The initiative is also expected to boost Nigeriaâs defence industry, reduce capital flight, and stimulate economic growth.
The latest acquisition comes amid ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to modernize its equipment and improve response capabilities in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other security threats nationwide.
