Iran Accuses US of Bombing Qeshm Island Water Plant, Calls Act ‘Desperate Crime’

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has accused the United States of bombing a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the attack as a “blatant and desperate crime.”

Speaking on Saturday, Araghchi said the strike disrupted the water supply to about 30 villages on the island, raising serious humanitarian concerns for residents who depend on the facility for clean drinking water.

According to the Iranian minister, targeting critical infrastructure that supports civilian life represents a dangerous escalation in the ongoing tensions in the Gulf region.

“Attacking Iran’s infrastructure is a dangerous step with serious consequences. The US is the one that set the precedent, not Iran,” Araghchi stated.

Tehran strongly condemned the alleged strike, calling it an unprecedented attack on civilian resources and warning that such actions violate international norms governing armed conflict.

Officials in Iran say the incident could further heighten tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime routes for global oil shipments.

The accusations come amid continuing hostilities in the Gulf, where the United States and its allies have maintained increased military operations, raising fears of further disruption to key infrastructure and civilian utilities across the region.
