FCT Bus Terminals Await FEC Approval to Begin Operations – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that newly constructed bus and taxi terminals across Abuja are awaiting final approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) before commencing full operations.
Wike stated that the terminals, developed under the FCT Administration’s urban transport reform initiative, are aimed at sanitising the nation’s capital, improving security, and creating an organised public transportation system. According to him, all major construction works have been completed, while necessary logistics and operational frameworks are being finalised pending FEC clearance.
The minister explained that once approved, the terminals will regulate commercial bus activities, reduce roadside pick-ups, and address traffic congestion in key parts of the city. He noted that the facilities are equipped with modern amenities including waiting lounges, security surveillance systems, ticketing booths, and designated loading bays.
Wike emphasised that the initiative is part of broader efforts to restore order to Abuja’s transport system and enhance commuter safety. He added that the project would also generate employment opportunities for residents and boost internally generated revenue for the FCT Administration.
Residents and transport operators have expressed optimism that the terminals will reduce the activities of illegal motor parks and improve overall commuting experience within the capital city.
The FCT Administration assured stakeholders that operations would commence immediately after the Federal Executive Council grants formal approval.
