Nigerian Army Neutralises Over 150 Terrorists in Kwara Forest Operations
Ilorin, Kwara State â Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army have reportedly neutralised about 150 terrorists who had been terrorising communities across forest areas in Kwara State, in a major military offensive aimed at restoring peace and security.
According to an official statement released on Saturday in Ilorin, the operation was confirmed by the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army / Sector 3 Operations FANSAN YAMMA, Captain Maureen Ogbuka.
She disclosed that the successful clearance operations targeted criminal elements operating from various forest hideouts, where they had been launching attacks and threatening residents.
âThese operations were conducted under the leadership of Major General Chinedu Nnebife, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), alongside Brigadier General Nicholas Rume, Commander 22 Brigade,â the statement said.
The military described the operation as part of ongoing efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, flush out armed groups from forested regions, and ensure the protection of lives and property in Kwara and surrounding states.
Security sources indicate that troops engaged the terrorists in intense combat across multiple forest locations, leading to heavy casualties among the insurgents and the disruption of their operational bases.
Residents in affected communities have expressed relief following the development, noting a reduction in fear and criminal activity in recent days.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups and other criminal elements threatening national security, urging the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
