BREAKING: Atiku Speaks on Son’s Defection to APC, Says Political Choices Are Personal

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the reported defection of his son to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a personal political decision that should not be misconstrued as his own stance. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Atiku stressed that Nigeria’s democracy allows individuals, including family members, to freely associate with any political party of their choice.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his long-standing advocacy for good governance, economic reform and national unity. Atiku urged Nigerians not to politicize family relationships, adding that political differences should not erode mutual respect or democratic values.

The former vice president also called on political actors to focus on addressing the nation’s pressing challenges such as insecurity, inflation and unemployment, rather than engaging in distractions driven by partisan rivalry.
