US Withdraws Some Personnel from Middle East Amid Rising Tensions with Iran

Washington — The United States is pulling some personnel from its military bases in the Middle East amid growing tensions with Iran, a US official told Reuters.

The move comes after a senior Iranian official warned neighboring countries that Tehran would target US bases if Washington launched strikes on Iran.

Iran’s leadership is also facing widespread anti-government protests, and the warning appears to be an effort to deter repeated threats by US President Donald Trump to intervene in support of the demonstrators.

A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that personnel were being moved from key bases in the region as a precaution. Reuters reported that some personnel were advised to leave the Al Udeid airbase in Qatar by Wednesday evening, citing three unnamed diplomats.

The situation underscores growing instability in the Middle East, with both sides taking cautious steps amid fears of escalation.
