Alleged N2.2bn Fraud: EFCC Arraigns Ex‑Labour Minister Ngige Today

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will today (Friday, December 12, 2025) arraign Dr. Chris Ngige, former Minister of Labour and Employment and ex‑governor of Anambra State, on charges of alleged fraud totaling about N2.2 billion.

Ngige’s arraignment is scheduled at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Gwarinpa, Abuja, where he is expected to take his plea before a judge.

The anti‑graft agency filed an eight‑count charge against the ex‑minister, accusing him of using his official positions to confer undue advantages on associates and linked companies through the award of multiple contracts while supervising the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) between September 2015 and May 2023.

According to the charge sheet, Ngige allegedly approved lucrative NSITF contracts for several firms — including Cezimo Nigeria Limited, Zitacom Nigeria Limited, Jeff & Xris Limited, Olde English Consolidated Limited and Shale Atlantic Intercontinental Services Limited — with combined values running into billions of naira.

The counts also allege that he received monetary benefits from some contractors during and after his tenure.

Ngige was arrested earlier this week in Abuja and has been held by the EFCC amid the ongoing investigation. His legal team is expected to argue for bail during proceedings.
