DR Congo, Rwanda Leaders to Sign Washington Peace Deal, Meet President Trump on December 4
The presidents of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) and Rwanda are expected in Washington next week to sign a landmark peace agreement as the United States steps up efforts to stabilise eastern DR Congo and boost Western mining investment in the region.
According to two diplomatic sources, as well as Tina Salama, spokesperson for Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi, the high-level meeting is scheduled for December 4. President Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame are also expected to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump during the visit.
While the Rwandan presidency and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment, the anticipated agreement marks one of Washingtonâs most significant diplomatic engagements in Central Africa in recent years.
The peace deal aims to ease long-standing tensions between Kinshasa and Kigali, particularly over insecurity in eastern Congo, where armed groups have continued to destabilise communities and threaten regional trade routes.
If finalised, the agreement is expected to pave the way for increased U.S. and European investment in Congoâs mineral-rich provinces, a strategic move as global demand rises for cobalt, copper, and other critical minerals essential for clean energy technologies and advanced manufacturing.
Nigeria TV Info will continue to monitor developments ahead of the scheduled signing in Washington.
