Wike–Naval Officer Clash: Ex-Generals Fume as FG Orders Probe

The Federal Government has ordered a full-scale investigation into the recent confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Navy Lieutenant A.M. Yerima over a disputed Abuja property. The viral video of the altercation, which showed the minister and the naval officer in a heated argument, has continued to spark outrage nationwide.

Reacting to the incident, several retired military generals and defence analysts condemned the confrontation, describing it as “a dangerous signal” for civil-military relations. They faulted both the minister’s approach and the officer’s response, urging the government to uphold discipline and due process in resolving such disputes.

A retired Army General, who spoke anonymously, said: “This is a reflection of deepening tension between civil authority and the armed forces. It must be addressed carefully to prevent a breakdown of respect between institutions.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has directed an internal review to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident, while the FCT Administration has pledged full cooperation with the investigation.

Public reactions remain divided, with some supporting Wike’s firm stance on illegal land occupations, while others accused him of high-handedness. Analysts warn that the outcome of the probe could shape future relations between political authorities and the military.
