Trump Threats: Nigerian Troops Pound Terror Bases in Key States Amid Security Alerts

Following renewed threats reportedly linked to international terror networks and concerns over remarks from former U.S. President Donald Trump, Nigerian military forces have intensified counterterrorism operations across key northern states.

In coordinated air and ground assaults, troops of Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Whirl Punch targeted suspected terrorist enclaves in Borno, Zamfara, Niger, and Kaduna States. According to Defence Headquarters sources, dozens of insurgents and bandit leaders were neutralized, while several hideouts, ammunition depots, and logistics camps were destroyed.

The operations, which began over the weekend, aim to dismantle terror cells planning cross-border attacks and to reassure Nigerians amid heightened global security concerns. Military spokesperson Maj. Gen. Edward Buba stated that intelligence sharing with regional and Western allies has been reinforced to prevent infiltration and ensure national safety.

Residents in affected areas confirmed heavy airstrikes and increased troop presence, expressing optimism that the current offensive would restore peace and stability.

Security analysts say the move underscores Nigeria’s determination to maintain sovereignty and resist any foreign or extremist provocation threatening its internal peace.
