Thailand Suspends Trump-Backed Ceasefire With Cambodia After Border Mine Blast Injures Soldiers

Thailand has frozen the implementation of its ceasefire agreement with Cambodia following a landmine explosion that injured two Thai soldiers near the disputed border region.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced that all actions under the truce will be halted “until Thailand’s demands are met,” citing ongoing security concerns along the frontier. However, he did not clarify what specific conditions Cambodia must meet for talks and cooperation to resume. Cambodia has not yet issued an official response.

The incident occurred in Thailand’s Sisaket Province, where a Thai army patrol reportedly triggered a landmine close to the contested border zone. According to the Royal Thai Army, one sergeant lost his right foot, while another soldier sustained serious chest injuries from the blast’s shockwave. Both men are currently receiving treatment at a nearby military hospital.

Thailand’s Defense Minister, Natthaphon Narkphanit, stated that investigators are still determining whether the mine was a remnant from past conflicts or newly planted. He confirmed that Thailand has postponed the planned release of 18 Cambodian soldiers captured during clashes in July — a key element of the ceasefire deal.

The ceasefire was signed last month during an ASEAN summit in Malaysia, following five days of border fighting that left dozens dead and displaced hundreds. The agreement, mediated initially by Malaysia and later endorsed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, required both countries to remove landmines, withdraw heavy weaponry, and exchange detained personnel.

The latest blast has heightened tensions once again, raising fears of renewed conflict along one of Southeast Asia’s most sensitive border regions.

Nigeria TV Info will continue monitoring developments.
