Shettima Returns to Abuja After Leading Nigeria’s Delegation at COP30 in Brazil
Abuja, Nigeria – Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to the nation’s capital after leading Nigeria’s delegation to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) held in Belém, Brazil. The global event brought together heads of state, development partners, climate activists, and business leaders to discuss strategies for addressing the world’s climate crisis.
During the Leaders’ Climate Summit hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Shettima represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and delivered Nigeria’s official address titled “The Rational Soul of Nature.”
In his remarks, the Vice President urged world leaders to recognise the economic value of natural ecosystems and to commit substantial financial resources to environmental protection and restoration. He stressed that global climate funding must be predictable, fair, and accessible especially for developing nations bearing the brunt of climate change impacts.
> “Nigeria’s renewed climate agenda is not just an aspiration, but a solemn national commitment to preserve the planet for future generations,” Shettima stated.
He also highlighted ongoing national efforts in clean energy transition, environmental sustainability, and green economic reforms, reaffirming Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa’s climate diplomacy.
The Vice President was accompanied by senior government officials and climate policy stakeholders.
