Trump Threats: Tinubu Rallies Foreign Allies as Northern Leaders Reject Sharia Ban

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has begun diplomatic consultations with key international allies following U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threats to strike Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians. Sources at the Presidency revealed that Tinubu reached out to leaders from the United Kingdom, France, and the African Union to prevent international escalation and safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Meanwhile, northern leaders have openly rejected any proposal that suggests banning or restricting Sharia law, describing it as an attack on the religious and cultural identity of millions of Muslims in the region. The Northern Elders Forum warned against foreign interference, saying Nigeria’s internal religious matters must be handled domestically.
Security analysts caution that Trump’s rhetoric could inflame tensions between Christian and Muslim communities if not carefully managed. Tinubu is expected to convene an emergency National Security Council meeting to address both internal reactions and global diplomatic fallout
