PDP Crisis Deepens: Makinde Bloc Regroups as Ortom, Fayose Declare Support for Wike

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new turn as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s bloc begins regrouping amid renewed tensions within the party. This development follows the open declaration of support for former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, by former governors Samuel Ortom of Benue and Ayo Fayose of Ekiti.

According to sources within the party, Makinde and his allies are pushing for a “new direction” within the PDP, arguing that recent decisions of the National Working Committee (NWC) have marginalised key stakeholders from the South. The group is reportedly strategising to strengthen its influence ahead of the party’s 2026 convention and the 2027 general elections.

Ortom and Fayose, both members of the influential G-5 governors’ alliance, reaffirmed their loyalty to Wike, describing him as a “pillar of truth and justice” within the PDP. They accused the party’s leadership of failing to reconcile lingering grievances and warned that the crisis could worsen if the issues of zoning, inclusion, and internal democracy are not addressed.

Party insiders hinted that efforts by the PDP Board of Trustees to broker peace have stalled, as divisions between the pro-Wike camp and the Atiku Abubakar faction continue to widen. Analysts warn that unless urgent reconciliation is achieved, the PDP may face serious setbacks in upcoming elections across key states.
