Nigeria TV Info – Rio de Janeiro Police Raid Leaves 119 Dead

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – The death toll from a massive police operation against a notorious drug gang in Rio de Janeiro has risen to 119, including four police officers, Brazilian authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The raid, one of the deadliest in the country’s history, has sparked widespread criticism from human rights groups and international observers.

The large-scale operation, which took place on Tuesday, involved more than 2,500 police officers and soldiers targeting members of the Comando Vermelho (Red Command) gang. Intense gunfire erupted across two low-income neighbourhoods for hours, leaving residents terrified and streets littered with bodies.

“That’s cowardly, it’s carnage,” said Carlos da Silva, a 44-year-old community leader. “You only see this in wars like Iraq or Gaza. It looked like a tsunami hit us. There were bodies everywhere.”

Schools and a local university were closed, while major roads were blocked as buses were used as barricades. Eyewitnesses described the area as resembling a war zone.

The raid has raised urgent questions about police tactics and the use of force in operations targeting organized crime in Brazil, with calls growing for accountability and reforms.
