How We Can Win War Against Insecurity – CDS Nominee Olufemi Oluyede

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) nominee, Major General Olufemi Oluyede, has outlined a strategic roadmap to end Nigeria’s prolonged battle with insecurity, emphasising intelligence-driven operations, inter-agency synergy, and community collaboration as key pillars.

Speaking during his Senate screening on Wednesday, Oluyede stated that the nation’s current approach needed “a paradigm shift from reactive combat to proactive intelligence management.” He pledged to enhance troop morale, modernise military equipment, and ensure welfare packages for personnel deployed in conflict zones.

Oluyede also promised stronger coordination among the Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary agencies, while seeking closer cooperation with local communities to gather reliable intelligence. He highlighted the importance of technology, including drones and surveillance systems, in tackling banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping.

He further assured lawmakers that if confirmed, his leadership would prioritise professionalism, transparency, and accountability in military operations, aiming to restore citizens’ confidence in the armed forces.

“The Nigerian military must be people-focused, intelligence-led, and technologically adaptive. That’s the formula for victory,” Oluyede said.
